MP4 to MOV Converter
Convert MP4 to MOV for QuickTime, iMovie and Final Cut Pro. H.264 or HEVC video and AAC sound are copied into a QuickTime file without re-encoding, so the conversion is quick and the quality stays exactly the same.

What works in your browser
Everything runs on your device, so what you can create depends on the browser. The last column is checked live in the browser you are using now and always wins over the table.

Instant copies work in every browser. Without WebCodecs (older browsers) re-encoding is not available, but MP3 and WAV files can still be made.
How to convert MP4 to MOV
- Add the MP4 files from your computer or phone, or drag them onto the page.
- MOV is preselected. Look at the line under each file: "Instant copy" means nothing is re-encoded.
- Press Convert. When a file has sound that QuickTime cannot use, a button offers to convert it without sound or to keep MP4.
- Download the MOV files and open them in QuickTime Player, or import them into iMovie or Final Cut Pro.
Why convert MP4 to MOV here
A real QuickTime file
The result carries the QuickTime brand and structure that Apple apps look for – not just a renamed .mp4 that some tools reject.
No generation loss
Copied streams are bit-identical to the original: no colour shift, no softening, no new compression artefacts.
Opens instantly
The index sits at the start of the file, so the MOV opens and scrubs immediately in players and editors.
Frequently asked questions
Is MP4 to MOV free and private?
Free, with no account and no watermark. Your MP4 never leaves the device: the browser builds the MOV locally, so there is no upload time and no copy of your video on a server.
Does MP4 to MOV re-encode the video or lose quality?
Usually not. H.264 and HEVC video and AAC sound are copied as they are, so quality is unchanged. Only VP9 or AV1 video and non-AAC sound are converted, and the plan line tells you before you start.
Do I need MOV for iMovie or Final Cut?
Both apps import H.264 MP4 too, but some workflows, older Macs and tools that expect QuickTime files work more reliably with MOV. Because nothing is re-encoded, converting is a quick way to avoid import errors.
How long does it take?
Copying runs at the speed of your disk, typically a few seconds per gigabyte on a computer. Files that need H.264 re-encoding take longer; the estimate shown per file is based on its length and your device.
Which browsers work for MP4 to MOV?
Copies work in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Creating AAC sound needs Chrome or Edge on Windows or Mac, or Safari 26 and later; Firefox and Chrome on Linux can copy AAC but not create it.
What happens to quality
MOV is Apple's QuickTime format, and it accepts the same H.264 and HEVC video and AAC sound that most MP4 files already contain. Zebra Convert therefore copies the streams and writes a QuickTime header, so the MOV plays in QuickTime Player, imports into iMovie and Final Cut Pro, and keeps every frame exactly as it was.
A few MP4 files need more work. VP9 or AV1 video, common in files saved from websites, is re-encoded to H.264 because QuickTime cannot play it. Opus or Vorbis sound must become AAC; if this browser cannot create AAC (Firefox, or Chrome on Linux), the file is marked and you can convert it without sound or keep it as MP4.
